@KittyAntonik @sapinker I was bullied for years and I think a lot of the current attempts to curtail it are counterproductive.

@MarkTrueblood Bullied in person w/ phys threats? Different than words, esp at distance. Which attempts "counterproductive"? @sapinker

@KittyAntonik Physically & with words / current advice seems to emphasize reliance on authority & minimize the right to self-defense.

@MarkTrueblood Agree w/ standing up to phys threats when ignoring not work. Words only, eg "idiot", are entirely diffnt. Self-reliance, yes.

@KittyAntonik Not sure it's helpful to tell an awkward teenager to simply "ignore" years of daily vicious verbal abuse.

@MarkTrueblood What's your suggestion for "awkward teenager"? Creating an inner toughness to ugliness starts earlier; diffic when "victim".

@KittyAntonik I don't mean claiming victimhood either. I think "ignoring" is a good first option but if it continues they need to talk back.

@sapinker Sensible & reassuring! Still - kids should NOT have computers in their bedrooms & media communications need to be monitored.
