@sapinker although it does make microblogs like twitter easier to use. 140 characters is a lot in中文。

@sapinker A better way would be to assemble a count of the homophones between, say, Chinese and English. Chinese poetically has many more.

@sapinker: There is no tense in Chinese, adverb is used to describe tense -- but adverb is not a mandatory composite of a sentence.

@sapinker: Chinese is ambiguous -- Punctuations were not in written Chinese until recent 100 years.

@A_NEVATHIR Yes, if you ask people to write down a bunch of homophones, they'll have trouble guessing which word was meant. In any language.

@jkhartshorne However, that does prove that Chinese logographs worked to make meaning clear! Full phonetic notation with tones can't!

@A_NEVATHIR Sure, extra info helps for this nonsense poem. English example: buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo

@A_NEVATHIR A logograph would make it easier to understand that poem by distinguishing the nouns & verbs, but not clear it's worth it.

@sapinker Read the passage to a average Chinese language user and ask her to write down the passage or meaning just heard.

@sapinker Obviously, scientists don't need to care about logic. And there is actually a way to prove the myth as follows:

@sapinker For the author, jumping from a Chinese sentence to draw claims on entire Chinese corpus is acceptable.

@sapinker Bunch of logical errors in the "debunking", e.g., jumping from a homophonetic sentence to deduce impossibility of communication.
