People constantly tell me that no one is ever persuaded by reason and scientific facts. Not true: former anti-GMO activist Mark Lynas changed his mind. Seeds of Science: Why We Got It So Wrong On GMOs by Mark Lynas https://www.amazon.com/dp/1472946987/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_PS6XBbRD800MP … via @amazon

Research on climate and nuclear switched me to pro-nuclear after decades of being anti.

I have never been anti-nuclear, but #Fukushima made me deal much more closely with the topic and made me a definite pro – and a founder of @Nuklearia, Germany's coolest pro-nuclear association!

GMO will never be a simple topic. Drought tolerance - good. Enhanced nutrient content - cool. Pesticide resistance to permit blanket spraying? Built-in sterility to support commercialisation? The benefits should not be used to characterise legit concerns as anti-science

Yes the idea of eating engineered proteins gets a bad rep and is really something of a red herring. Regulation is essential - a potential difficulty is the huge drivers at work to get products to market. Neonicotinoids spring to mind.

I think there is big crossover between two groups: - those who are persuaded by scientific facts - those who take time to research a subject for themselves So I think a lot of them actually persuade themselves. :)

People say the Information Deficit model is not much use, but I believe simply providing a good info resource works very well on those people.

Ya. A lot of people react very nicely to figures and graphs. They just tend to be the people I communicate with a lot (and especially online). What about everyone else?

What scientifically facts definitively demonstrate the safety of GMOs?!? Most studies are sponsored by Monsanto (hence, huge conflict of interest), and many GMO strategies involve using more pesticides on crops, while inserting genes for pesticide resistance in crop!

Mark Lynas has absolutely no body of work to show on his so-called anti-gmo stance. Where is his writing from that era? Utterly made up story

But those who go into industries like nuclear are overwhelmingly T rather than F so broadly do not get the majority of the population and get angry that they are not analytical like themselves.

@sapinker I’ve been struggling to get an answer - read a few books but nothing really explains what happens to people while voting. Why don’t they see logic and why can’t we get people to look beyond the left and right? Even educated people.
