The US is no longer an exception to plunging fertility rates in developed countries - a trend which will spread to the developing world as it becomes more urban, affluent, & educated. The implications for economies & ecosystems are profound. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db323.htm … via @CDCgov

In hunter gatherer times the human life expectancy was 20 - 30 yrs. The same Europe in and Medieval times. It didn't rise to 40 years until around 1870. 50 in 1915 60 in 1930 70 in 1955 And today it approaches 80 #DemonHauntedWorld page 13 #CarlSagan

Reducing the global population is crucial for sustainable quality of life. Economists and Behavioral science practitioners must define our economy to thrive as populations decrease.

Until humanity solves decarbonization/climate management in a permanent/sustainable way (e.g. fusion, renewables), we need to head to a significantly lower level at which to stabilize global population. So, for now, this belongs on your list of excellent trends.

Agreed, sadly. That's one reason (among many) why it's urgent that they be integrated into the global economy and their living standards be raised.

This is not a good thing. Falling birthrates are the beginning of the fall of humanity. It may seem like a boon to the environmentalists, but ultimately we don't need a reduced birthrate to do good by the planet. The end result of this is a downward spiral.

Smart people are too busy studying and working to have smart kids, while dumb people collect welfare and breed rampantly to fill the world with dumb kids. The Idiocracy approaches.

Intelligence doesn't inherit that way; smart people are more likely to have dumb kids and dumb people more likely to have smart kids due to simple regression to the mean. There is a genetic and environmental component, but being smart doesn't mean your kids will be.

You are correct. I was making a flippant comment. I am inclined to think there would be a regression to separate means for each group, with epigenetic intellectual potential being influenced favourably by intelligent parents and influenced unfavourably by stupid parents.
