Panicking about climate? The solution is abundant, scalable, zero-carbon energy, including 4th-gen nuclear. Not panicking, but still 100% pro-nuclear. It's cheap, safe, and effectively limitless. My ideal world is baseline gen = nuclear, peaking gen = NG. Cheap and abundant power for charging electric cars. Dramatic drop in carbon emissions. And none of that is SciFi.

A better solution is to ignore catastrophists, and their gamed climate models. However: building abundant, scalable energy of any kind will scare them; so that pleases me too.

considering that a lot of greens (especially the vocal ones) seem to closet ecofascists/Malthusian, the very real possibility of creating a better world with more people in it really does pisses them of. to me, that's just another good reason to support nuclear energy

I am all for more people in the world, but all studies also show that when brought out of poverty, people automatically choose to have fewer children. More power = better population control too.

exactly, and this is already happening in many parts of the world. the population bomb scenario is unrealistic, humans are not bacteria, we do not reproduce exponentially like them.

That's the funny part. Even bacteria don't do that. Have you ever heard of a biologist go "I planted a culture of bacteria in a petri dish. They replicated exponentially and the entire colony collapsed"? No. They replicate to meet the limit, and then reach steady state.

This type of nuclear power plant would be a nice bridge until humanity gets fusion power going.

And how do we get past the political and economic barriers to that? We currently have a capitalist class in power that have done everything they can to block, degrade, and delay action on climate change. Markets have failed.

As with GM tech nuclear energy of whatever generator doesn’t fit with the ideology of co2 caused warming. It’s a ‘cause’ People object to solar and wind as spoiling the landscape. climate change is weak bad science. Your bullshit sensors are letting you down Steve.

Ooh So sorry for the typo Dustin. Major use of GM crop and nuclear power could have a massive impact on reducing co2 levels. The climchge zealots reject both as it doesn’t fit their quasi religious agenda. Illuminating isn’t it. How is my construction now?

Well you are right about both of those things reducing c02. I think it's more that the general population doesn't understand that. Including climate change deniers.

Oh I fully understand it. It just doesn’t fit with the gospel according to the ipcc. Viz we must deindustrialise the west and all go sit in a teepee with a solar panel. Alarmists don’t want any other solution to their faulty bad science “We are all Doomed” rendition is nigh stuff

A warming planet is cause for concern (although we are very fortunate that we are in an interglacial period.) I believe the only thing the IPCC failed on is distinctivize the use of nuclear power. I disagree with your other points, projections are tough because of feedbacks

Warming within natural variation limits. Climate is chaotic and complex and not understood yet. Increasing numbers of people are seeing that the Emperor is naked. Arctic sea ice now at 2005 levels very icy. It was supposedly have gone totally 5 years ago. It’s bullshit.

Warming within natural variation limits?? That doesn't make sense. If there is one thing that feedbacks do to limits, it's that they exceed them exponentially.
