A corollary of which is that the remainder of the internet is composed of masochists, who engage online in the full understanding that they are going to be disagreed with, ridiculed and insulted.

I think talk of 'personalities' undervalues how universal the compulsion to exercise control and power over others is. It does not require sadism to act cruelly towards others if you yourself are separate from the direct or even indirect consequences of it.

also -- there is also no visual response to the cruelty inflicted or--- people are cruel and mean when there are no consequences.

Maybe another explanation: Primitive cultures used to use masks as an instrument to express a latent possibility in the individual. The person manages to transform himself into the character he has chosen by putting on the mask and assuming that personality.

if you don't understand what internet trolling is a symptom of at this point, don't lecture people about what the future should look like. you're in out of your depth pinky

This is why I argue that anonymity should be removed in full. I mean, technically no one is anonymous anyways. All it takes to remove someones illusion of anonymity is to use a couple programs and a little bit of dedication and time. Anonymity is an illusion. A hallucination.
-
Good idea. Who needs samizdat? The state religion is best, everyone knows that.
-
Thing is, you don't need anonymity to fight against a corrupt state. All you need is courage and a backbone. Anonymity may help with that, but it also comes at the cost of giving protection to those who don't need nor deserve it. You don't need the illusion. It needs you.
-
>Anyone who would be executed or whose life would be ruined by sharing an opinion deserves such a fate. Courage is enough. Fuck everyone else. Yeah, you’re not getting it. Btw give me your full name and address. If not, why not?
-
Furthermore, this is just cognitive dissonance on your part friend. Understandable that you would resort to it, as many are afraid of losing their anonymity. But that's the whole point of my profile. Everything in my profile is a Rorschach image. The name, the pic. All of it.
-
Just give me your name, address and phone number if you’re not afraid of anonymity. God, those Soviet dissidents were such pussies using noms de plume. They should have been courageous like you, Mr. Anonymous!
-
As I already said. It's all available on the internet if you know how to find it. I don't have to tell you if you are proficient with the internet.
-
So is mine. What’s your point? I’m anonymous here. Good luck finding me.
