Yikes. Disappointing, narrow. painful. 64 entries: 10 books by women (6 of which are his wife or sister) for 6 women writers total. 1 writer of color that I could recognize included. Sad lack of diversity, and I dare say curiosity, in this reading list.

What does sex and race have to do with a reading list dude. And showing love for your family. I hope i do the same and I hope I am lucky enough to be so proud of my own little tribe. :))
-
I'm not a dude, my dude. Yes, the reading list seemed like one of a "little tribe." You locate the core of my disappointment well. You can of course be proud of any of your own little groups you like. I found the list to be painfully--almost glaringly--boring, staid and blind.
-
I guess you didn't get my tounge and cheek. Didn't mean to offend you Miss or Mr. and tribe is satirical of course to imply that your family I assume take utmost importance in one's life. Reading list? Have not read it but I'm curious.

Reading lists (like syllabi) are one of the best places to implement diversification, recognizing PoC and women as part of the conversation. Reading lists like this maintain the artificiality of white men as the keepers of science and knowledgehttps://twitter.com/nelsonlflores/status/1051499802519904256?s=19 …
-
IDK - A personal reading list isn't the same. My list would unfort be mostly male - circumstantial but not artificial. Isn't the objective to share your journey and maximise shared growth. And work hard not to mix growth up with these question of equal opportunity/politics?
-
It's a good point, personal lists reflect individual journeys! And there are great books by white cis-men but we need to challenge ourselves to expand (even our personal lit) to include diverse PoVs & experiences. And when we have power & a platform we need to advocate & educate

Let me add “The Blank Slate” by some guy named “Steven Pinker”. Note there is not a book by an economist although “The Retational Optimist” is a basic application of economic theory.

That's great! Thanks for taking the time. I wish I could freeze time and work my through the list. I was reading Georgel Orwell - A road to wigan pier. It was a quick facinating read and made me think of your excellent uplifting recent book Enlightenment Now.
