I wonder how people would respond if you polled them about good manners and being polite, since those are terms that more people understand.

Civility and political correctness are two entirely different things; one is imposed internally, while the other is imposed externally.
-
Well put.

Personally, I feel like remembering not to say the N-word is much easier than using the right fork at a fancy dinner, although of course that’s not true for everyone.
-
That's not just what political correctness is about. Something being 'politically correct', doesn't necessarily mean factually correct, but it's designed to make people feel that have to bite their tounge and not state the obvious.

Does the poll describe how "PC" is defined? Thus far I've only encountered it as a more or less made-up-on-the-spot kind of term
-
Not only does it not define it, it straight up asks people to self-describe their thoughts on PC, instead of trying to elicit views through scenario questions. It's like saying a poll asking "are you sexist" reveals no one in America is sexist

It’s amazing the power of just clicking on the article!

Once upon a time, I think we may have defined political correctness simply as good manners.

It has gone FAR beyond that.

This will never be a fruitful conversation as long as the definition of Political Correctness is: 'whatever annoys me generally about society at this moment'.
-
I don’t think anyone left or right defines it like that.

It's making me lose respect for him to be honest

Gratuitous, reflexive liberal-bashing. It's amazing. He's on the Haidt bandwagon which says the all the right's bad behavior is because of the left's bad behavior. Soon they'll have the right-wing fascist state they helped create.

It's the present-day version of the rules that governed 19th century drawing room conversation, so the players are the present-day equivalent.
