What Americans call "center", is actually "right". What they call "left" is actually "center". Thanks to the perversion of language by corporate monstrosity over the last 50/y, we must now decode what words mean when in politically & intellectually lobotomized American discourse.
-
Exactly right! Thank you!

Anyone want to define "center" in this context? NYT is notorious for thinking it's half-way between Clinton and Trump, others for halfway between Marxism and "Objectivism". "Center" is about as ill-defined and abused a term as "neoliberalism", I find.
-
And “center” basically is neoliberalism.

This global mess can only be corrected by having the center retake the primary/nomination systems around the world. That is how the extremists have gotten so much power, by massive over representation in the systems that limit everyone else's choice. Changing that apathy is hard.
-
And how did we get into this mess? Who had power before?
-
The power is always with those who limit our choices. Our complacency give them that power. Now those groups are dominated by ideological and single issue voters who are willing to see the world burn if they don't get their way. Complacency is no longer an option.

agree. only today's center isn't really center bc Reps have shift so far to right. What is center today is what Mark Hatfield/Bob Packwood of Ore were in 80s and 90s. I wrote a letter to Hatfield begging him not to retire lol and got a nice letter back

Let's do a roundup of the smartest representatives of the main ideologies: Rightwing: Ben Shapiro, David Duke, Trump Center: The creator of Minecraft, Pinker, David Frum Leftwing: Einstein, Sagan, Hawking, Chomsky I think I'll go with Einstein
-
I think you forgot Milton Friedman, William F. Buckley Jr., Ludwig von Mises, and Thomas Sowell. Idk about you, but I wouldn't ask a physicist how the economy - or society - should be run.
-
please tell me there are smarter conservatives than Buckley haha. And you should absolutely trust a physicist on economics. If you prefer to get your advice from dumber people, feel free.
