Nuclear fusion would be even better for long term abundant energy production. I agree that nuclear fission would work too, but easily accessible uranium isn’t a permanent resource + long lived radioactive waste will always (unjustifiably) freak people out.

-
we don't have time to wait for fusion, just like we can't wait for gen 4 reactors. combating radiophobia is not as remotely challenging as combating climate change. let's build modern reactors now.
-
also, when gen 4 arrives, it can use the waster from the the older plants, does effectively solving long-term waste problem.
-
I think you’re underestimating the resistance to nuclear power that produces any long lived radioactive waste. It’s not rational, but most public debate never is. Medium term fusion has a better chance. Only short lived radioactive material (Tritium).
-
if our models are true we only have a couple of decades before things go really bad. i know radiophobia is really strong, but we have no option to combat it. public needs to learn solar&wind grids is a pipe dream and nuclear is a must
-
However, people being what they are & politicians being what they are is say the chance of a widespread resurgence in nuclear fission is basically zero. Especially as the IPCC is also antinuclear.
-
oh yes, the new report said nuclear is dangerous (though it also said an increase in nuclear generation is necessary). really wish i had a time machine so i could go back in time and make sure radiophobia never becomes a thing. it is really ridiculous, some even oppose fusion!
-
I know! Had a conversation a couple months back with someone convinced that heavy water was the most dangerous thing in the world. Interesting article on radiophobia...I’ll find it for you.

Abolish animal agriculture, one of the most largest GHG contributors, in favor
#vegan agriculture, -
Yeah but then we'll all be weak little pansies with high pitched voices and terrible immune systems.

Tell that to all of the vegan athletes and bodybuilders winning competitions and even breaking world records.

Ok I just emailed all of them there. Sorry for the delay, I had trouble spelling the second ones name.

Nuclear is a very viable option at the moment.

Lots of reactors all over the world working while your brain is not. Way less deadly than global warming.

I'm surprised you would admit to working in a nuclear plant, Kev. Your job was made possible because the plant was making a profit, right? No Gov't subsidy? Nuclear waste is not a problem if one would simply grind the waste into a powder, mix the powder into waste lead, and bury.

Anyone who thinks "nature" is great has been deceived; nature is cruel, making life short and harsh. Our challenge is to finish taming nature, so Trillions can live here peacefully. Clean energy is waiting: hydro & nuclear are proven successful technologies.
