Major Climate Report Describes a Strong Risk of Crisis as Early as 2040 (so why does NYT article, unlike IPCC report, not even mention nuclear power, which all credible analyses show will be indispensable to decarbonization?)https://nyti.ms/2Cw5MF8

"...mining high-grade uranium ore, of 60 grams of CO2 per kilowatt-hour (g/kWh), for wind of 10–20 g/kWh and for natural gas 500–600 g/kWh. when low-grade uranium ore is used, the life-cycle GHG emissions will increase to 131 g/kWh. Others have obtained higher levels."

#Nuclear is only "green" if you don't look in the details. #Wind and #Solar are the fastest paths to a " #lowcarboneconomy.

Nonsense. See last IPCC report on lifecycle co2 emissions. Current generation nuclear lies between solar and wind for co2.

Highly dependent on mining operation...uranium mining is only getting harder to get, whereas pv and wind turbine manufacturing are still improving at every design cycle.

More nonsense. Most uranium mining is transitioning to in-situ-mining, cheaper, virtually no surface disturbance, no miners in holes in the ground.

It's about the energy required to mine the ore out, not the visual or leaching pollution.

Mining energy is trivial compared to the energy density of fission by a factor of about 1 to 10,000,000.

"Nuclear fuel preparation begins with the mining of uranium containing ores, followed by the crushing of the ore then extraction of the uranium from the powdered ore chemically. All three stages take a lot of energy, most of which comes from fossil fuels."

How come they can’t predict the weather accurately for next week? Yet they can predict the climate in 20-30 years time? 🤔

As a young parent I was always wondering how come I could not predict how much sleep I would get this night but still, by knowing the cause if my sleep deprivation, I knew my average sleep time was going to increase with time... and it did! 🏆

Because giving guilt free inexpensive energy to the world would be to grant humanity a license to expand. This movement is fundamentally about protecting plants and animals against people. It's anti-humanist. Regression focused.

Protecting plant and animal life on the planet does not sound like anti humanist to me without the worlds diversity life in general could cease to exist

Problem is not with nuclear power but nuclear waste. Here in Canada, they have no solution to this problem. You need to find ways to safely dispose of waste.

Nonsense. Waste problem was solved decades ago. See WIPP. Recycle actinides waste from spent fuel in fast reactors, put fission product waste in WIPP for 300yrs. Problem solved.

Ya, well that just means our politicians aren’t doing their jobs, not that the waste problem has no solution. The solution to the the waste problem is trivial compared to the global warming problem.
