"With an iron fist we will drive you to happiness." (Marxist slogan, 1924) The Marxist approach failed, but some people are slow learners, I guess.

Liberalism has had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into defending itself against global existential threats. I suppose our reluctance to confront such threats more sincerely and earlier in the cycle might make inevitable the large scale conflicts. Now to see your take…

I totally agree. Here is a great video that airs similar concerns and I think it presents the issue that we have not properly addressed the problems we face today.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtPG-QH3q-A …

hey
@MaxBoot you will enjoy this. It addresses a fascinating point about conservatism which you are ready to hear. -
The
@BretWeinstein video, I mean to say.

With reference to Gandhi, his idea of revolution was most certainly 'non-violence'. However, it will be wrong to say that India's Independence Movement was non-violent. Millions were killed in this process, mostly Indian, and I am not even counting those killed during Partition.

Pinker had some good points, but seems to have fallen for a lot of far right tricks recently.
-
Pinker’s fundamental positions haven’t changed in 20 years. I know because I’ve been reading and following him for that long. Agree with him or disagree with him, but he’s no shill.
-
His positions haven't changed in 20 years...And that is a good thing? My mind has changed on many things over the last twenty years as I learned more about reality.
-
His fundamental positions. On free speech and heterodoxy, enlightenment values, the dangers of social constructionism, his resistance to demonstrably false idea that humanity is in some sort of decline, influence of evolution on human behavior.
-
And as I said...free speech has nothing to do with Pinker promoting Bannon, Robinson, or Jones...Everyone has a right to free-speech but we don't need to promote their speech. Pinker promotes fascists but I don't see him promoting creationists, or flat earthers...I wonder why?
-
Well there are only so many hours in a day, friend. But I suspect if anyone cared enough about those other types to try to deplatform them, he might stick up for them too.
-
I doubt it. But we can agree to disagree...have a good night

The intersectionality lady seems a bit dim. "The history and the roots of war are also the history and the roots of patriarchy"

@DLSmith1665 you are a major critic of Peterson (the low hanging fruit of the IDW)… Pinker is appearing with Shermer (the same Shermer who asked Rogan to give Tommy Robinson a 3 hour platform), Pinker endorses platforming Steve Bannon...Why not critique Pinker? -
As you said, low hanging fruit.
-
Things seem different from the point of view of a working class drone like me. I am presumably missing some subtle points. If Shermer talks Rogan into giving a racist sociopath like Tommy Robinson three hours publicity to spread his poison this would be my first concern.
-
When it comes to Tommy Robinson, Alex Jones, or Steve Bannon...Pinker and his underlings are free speech absolutists. But I haven't heard
@sapinker's take on@jordanbpeterson using his Patreon money to threaten to sue anyone who critiques him... - 1 more reply
