Seems like Pinker's turned into a mouthpiece for right wing libertarians seeking to pacify the public. 'It used to be worse' has been Pinker's answer to virtually every present day problem and, increasingly, the essence of his message—weak and disappointing.

If that’s what you get from Pinker work, I doubt you’ve read or objectively analyzed his books and articles.
-
Quite the opposite actually, Pinker used to be one of my intellectual heroes starting all the way back in the early 2000s. As a big fan of his writings, the only bias I may have had was a +ve one. That should tell you a lot. I strongly suggest you rethink your own assessment.
-
Again, I highly doubt you’ve properly assessed his work if those are the conclusions your came to. It’s like me being a fan of Einstein but saying that Relativity only details quantum phenomena of light. It’s just wrong.
-
Saying I'm wrong bc I came to different conclusions than yours is not an argument—its' circular, you can see that can't you? Einstein is a horrible comparison. The writings I'm criticizing are in social & political science, not deterministic sciences in the sense physics is.
-
I see now I have to break this down to you: Claim #1 - “Pinker has become a mouthpiece for far right libertarians.” False. Most of his supporters are on the left. Claim #2 - “Pinkers answer to virtually everything is ‘it is getting better.” Again, false.
-
"Most of his supporters are on the left" Quite a claim, zero evidence. Also: 'supporters'? What does that even mean, is Pinker's running for office?
-
Endorsements by Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and many other left leaning people with a large audience are more than enough evidence.

Steven, Measuring Violence Deltas doesn't help us as much as measuring theft. With material goods replaced by title to fractional goods, we have simply devalued violence and increased the value of cunning, deceit, fraud, and conspiracy. Those men lived in a very different world.

so what if it used to be worse? Telling people to be grateful is a weapon for complacency. If you keep people grateful they are lesS likely to revolt and ask for change! IT MAY BE ACCURATE BUT IT ALSO WORKS FOR THE STAUS QUO

I don’t know. A Beat It style knife fight between the Majority and Minority leaders once a session may help.
