Identity Politics Does Not Continue the Work of the Civil Rights Movements (excellent analysis by Helen Pluckrose & James Lindsay. Universal liberals, speak out!) https://areomagazine.com/2018/09/25/identity-politics-does-not-continue-the-work-of-the-civil-rights-movements/ … via @areomagazine

Sadly, Mr Pinker, the sense of moral & intellectual superiority of today’s “liberals” has made many deaf to any critique of their narrative. Tribalism is antithetical to liberal/progressive philosophy, yet has completely subsumed the modern version. It has betrayed its own ideals

There is almost no internal critique of liberal progressivism today. Those like Pinker who do ask questions are shamed or labeled fascist sympathisers. As a result the movement has become increasingly delusional, devoid of introspection, with genuine thinkers too scared to speak.

Your timing is really questionable. Tone policing the left while politely looking away from the blatant show of identity politics staged by republicans yesterday is WHY liberals are doubting your motives.

good point. I support anyone across the political spectrum who wants to get their own house in order. My mild critique was aimed at suggesting how his efforts might land badly right after the hearings. Not aimed at the effort itself, or the article.

Personally I think the timing is perfect. Presuming guilt or innocence based on gender is as bad as basing it on race. This article explains why.

Yes, I know we're stepping on everyone else's rights, but you better always be 100% correct when criticizing me. Oh, the inhumanity! OK as long as you also demand 100% police accountability, 100% punishment for rape, 100% humane treatment of immigrants, you can rail on about IP.

You are entirely tone-deaf from your Ivory Tower. We're out here marching and fighting and yelling to protect women's dignity and promote women's voices, and you're pissing on about overblown campus politics and some overzealous students. His voice could matter, if he would stop promoting his book for a second. So, on behalf of all of the protesters arrested yesterday, thanks for your silence.pic.twitter.com/J2kqjSlkFP

Wow. Usually takes a couple more tweets of me tearing down someone's flimsy argument for the personal attacks to come out. Bravo! A word of advice, Twitter is no place for the thin-skinned. If you need a safe bubble, go back to Facebook.

Civil Rights Movement: people judged by the content of their character; Identity Politics: people judged by the color of their skin. What a betrayal of the original values. What a betrayal of Martin Luther King's message
