Because Russia modernizing their nuclear arsenal while we did not was evident of a more peaceful outlook or peace offering?

Pretty sure the lessons of history is quite the opposite. Weakness invites aggression. There is no deterrence with abolition.

I would rather just have bigger and better nuclear weapons than the bad guys. Go back to academia.

Deterrence only is reasonable (as well as changes to make any such decision require more people), but abolition seems unlikely. Be careful of unintended consequences, since KE weapons in space would deliver much of the bang, with none of the fallout, allowing actual use.

Last time I checked, the DPRK was denuclearizing and Kim directly credited Trump as the catalyst. Too bad the far left sufferers of TDS will totally forget that historical achievement

Abolish nuclear weapons? No, thanks. I'd rather the pax americana to continue. Only nukes stand between the modern world and endless grinding industrial warfare.

I think you know humans are wired to react to the personal individual stories over mass death predictions or actual mass catastrophes.

Perhaps people aren’t fools. Black Americans are far more likely to have their lives ruined or snuffed out by an incredibly unjust criminal justice system than they are to be victims of a nuclear weapon. Using police brutality as emblematic of that issue makes perfect sense.

Because nuclear attacks don’t happen regularly & school shootings do. One is a potential threat & one is an actual threat. It’s as a stupid a question as why do I worry about the mugger following me at night when 1 in 2 people get cancer. I thought you were supposed to be smart.

Am reading Einstein's essays now and just about everything he wrote and was concerned about is still among the world's greatest problems.

We do have extensive data on terrorist attacks, school shootings, and police shootings. We have a lot of sci-fi on nuclear war.

"Mother Nature routinely deals with huge amounts of energy...It can be computed that the average hurricane releases the energy equivalent of 10 Hiroshima-class bombs every second. That’s approximately 1 million atomic bombs per day."
