Could you direct me to an optometrist that sells rose-tinted glasses? Also, peripheral blinders would be a nice accessory.

The world generally getting better does shit all for people truly suffering, but does everything to make those living in comfort feel better

It may be getting better in terms of standard of living and life expectancy, but at the cost of increasing environmental degradation and global warming. Civilizations collapse when they run out of resources, no matter how shiny they look
-
I knew we should have stuck ourselves@in the dark ages and still have dysentery and cholera outbreaks!
-
I never said that. What I object to is the blanket statement that the world is getting better. Long term, the higher living standards come at a cost, and right now, our consumption far outstrips natures capacity to replenish itself.

The world may be approaching a tipping point that your data does not see AND we can do much much better. Complacency is the enemy when so many still suffer.

To be honest, it means little to those who are suffering from poverty and violence.
-
It means a lot that the amount of people suffering from those is way down and continually trending down. Why does everything have to be a fucking competition? Why can’t we celebrate anything good?
-
What competition? Is this a way of ignoring the everyday living conditions of millions of people across the third world? Those people do not get to “celebrate” much because they are busy trying to survive.
-
And that other more fortunate people are doing good does little for them. Third world countries have significant numbers of people living in relative and absolute poverty. In my Mexico, endemic violence only compounds the situation.
-
And there are much less of those people that have to deal with that. Let’s celebrate that instead of being a douche bag and always being a downer.
-
This is your feel good moment, right? A way to conveniently ignore third world realities for flesh and blood people through abstract numbers. There are still people living in horrific conditions and violence. Less? Take a trip to Mexico and Central America.
-
That someone can move from less than $2.00 a day to less than $10 under inflation only helps so much. That is part of your “less” and dare you to live under either. Only difference would be you know you can escape and others might not ever
