It's also highly readable, gripping, dynamic, and more of a genuine page-turner than most non-fiction.

What an endorsement! "The Righteous Mind" is one of the 2 most important books I've ever read & I can't wait to dig into this one.

Seems like forming a worldview based on a priori hypothesis-driven selective interpretations of non-replicable research - the hallmark of the pop science genre - is more likely to set people up for failure, but whatevs.

Seems like you've made your mind up before reading it.

The "American Mind" is not just on college campuses. Visit a neighborhood tavern to meet the American MAGA mind. Last night I watched one angsty Deplorable clear out an entire bar by picking fights with "libruls" & ranting about fake news. Never seen anything like it.

Perspective, and geography, by far the most common intellectual response I get from San Francisco Progressives when I present data from Elightenment Now is "I don't believe that!".
-
Right. Termites, grizzly attacks & hurricanes are a problem somewhere but not everywhere. Titling a book "Coddling of the American Mind" and then complaining of campus issues seems a narrow view of America.
-
The book is supposed to be about how we raise kids across the board. Isn’t it sad, though, they we are comparing supposedly educated college students to drunk Trump supporters? I used to think educated meant better. I’m beginning to doubt that a bit.

What, you get to decide what he thinks is an important book? He read it, you should too before you start acting like he's wrong

Thanks for recommendation! Loved Sapiens so I’m sure I’ll enjoy this one.

You said the same about J. Rich Harris’s book. This books contradicts what Rich Harris says. Now what?
-
Ideas can contradict each other and still spark intrigue...
-
Completely agree. Still, would love Pinker to address this as I don’t really feel competent to make my own mind.
