Adjust for ethnic background the US does as well as Asian and European countries. H/t @Biorealismhttps://tino.us/2010/12/the-amazing-truth-about-pisa-scores-usa-beats-western-europe-ties-with-asia/ …

And then there is this: https://tino.us/2010/12/the-amazing-truth-about-pisa-scores-usa-beats-western-europe-ties-with-asia/ … My belief is that there are very few bad schools in the developed countries including the USA and differences is those countries is insignificant. Besides PISA is too close to IQ test to be a good measure of school quality.

The 2015 scores reported by Pew when students are taking the same test (http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/02/15/u-s-students-internationally-math-science/ …) shows, e.g., Canada consistently in the top 3-9 in science/reading/math, and the US in the top 24-40. But the meta-score used in this analysis shows the US outperforming. Seems odd?

Your link only looks at 15 year olds. Also, their link says 2018 report whereas yours is 2017.

I suspect the top American 20% by wealth punches well below its weight, even compared to middle income countries. That may be the real achievement gap, the American rich lagging behind the rich elsewhere.
