Yes, but note that this is not evidence for the effectiveness of screening. Cancer treatment has improved and this may have even reduced the modest gains from screening.

Not really sure how progress can be exponential... It seems kind of weird to me to describe, say, the elimination of smallpox or Guinea worm as "exponential", though they've been very successful.

w/o reading his piece, last time i checked data, it was "a little of both": improvements in diagnosis AND survivability/quality of life. I think that latter point is hardest to quantify. "beating cancer" in past meant cure *almost* killed you. treatment is less dangeous now
