If you want to fight authoritarian populism, stop insisting that the world is getting worse and worse. New Pew poll: "Those who view populist parties favorably are more likely to say life is worse today than it was 50 years ago."https://pewrsr.ch/2LrcFZb

If you want to fight to save our species, stop insisting everything is wonderful , that ignorance, misery and despair are illusions, and that life's little troubles, such as climate change and gross economic inequality, will take care of themselves.

Ignorance and misery are lower than ever. Income inequality it's not a problem, the problem it's poverty and now it's in its lower historic level. Climate change it's a real thing, but it's consequences, even when real, are exaggerated.

Ah, a Pinker acolyte. Consider: Just nine individuals (9!) have a share of the world's wealth equal to the world's poorest 4 BILLION. Not a problem for those nine in any case.

The number comes from an organization called Oxfam and it's fake. They take the whole assets of their businesses and puts it in their pockets. For example, if Microsoft is worth 50 billions, it says Bill Gates has 50 billions in his pocket, and that's fake.

Fake numbers too. The 9 biggest business in the world don't control the 50% of the wealth of the planet. That's ridiculous if you think about it. So, how Oxfam get this numbers? I'll explain:

I'd argue that to fight populist thinking is to not be so all or nothing. It's worse in some ways, better in others, incredibly complicated, multilayered, dynamic... Complex, critical, informed, and evolving with feedback is the counter to simplistic thinking.

Well, yes. Of course. Life may in fact be worse for them, you don’t notice, the populists do. Please, go out into the field. Talk to people about how their lives have changed over specifically the last twenty years. One on one. See if you still believe they’re unreasonable.

Environmentally, it is, and economically for us little people, it mostly is. Cost of living not keeping pace with wages. Populists aren’t the only ones saying such things about these times, they’re just too quick to settle on simplistic answers to troubling questions.

Why do you add the word authoritarian to populism? Most populists I know are die hard individual freedom promoters. Not an authoritarian bone in their bodies

Trump is on record wanting to "strengthen libel laws", making them more like the UK's, thereby kneecapping our 1st amendment. He calls the press "the enemy of the people." Get a fucking clue, Will.
