You can't blame society for your unbearable life if the world is getting better. That's why your message is hard to swallow for some people. Peterson's message is compatible with yours. It encourage people to take control of their own life and discourages them from utopias.

I'm a fan of both
@sapinker and@jordanbpeterson I can appreciate JP's work without getting tangled up in the religious stuff, and although I do appreciate the importance of religion that little bit more due to some of his words, I am still an atheist. They are both great fellasThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

if humanism is so hard to define, then theres a fair chance its nonsense, and also that very few people will get it and so its of no value as a replacement for religion as the source of morality

Clear logical directives like those described by humanists, although laudable, don't inspire introspection, acceptance, and subsequent self improvement. Its missing big functional parts to make it relevant or useful outside of a very small community that doesn't really need it.
-
Also
@sapinker, love your work and books. They are great and I'm thankful every time I get to introduce people to your research findings.

TLDR: humanism and Christianity almost entirely overlap. Pinker et al think they will avoid fundamentalism by removing the supernatural, but have no basis for such a conjecture.
-
Interesting, this was roughly where I got to as well lol.

They didn’t remove the faith, they just made a leap of faith elsewhere.
-
Every belief system has unjustified priors (leaps of faith) including your objectivism.
-
It took a leap of faith for you to hold that conviction about objectivism.
-
Haha nice (not sarcasm).

Humanism is a belief system not a science. It’s a non theistic religion

Jordan Peterson has said that he is a Shamanistic priest & that in that role he receives important information about reality while in Shamanistic trances & dream states. In this he is following Carl Jung, who also said that he was a Shamanistic priest. This explains Peterson.pic.twitter.com/EJR3MU7G1O
-
The Peterson cult acts is if shamanism is a good thing instead of being just another case of pretending to know things they don't know.

If only the "I"DW crowd were more like you, Steve.

Wait I'm confused, I thought
@sapinker was part of the IDW and was alt-right? https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/11/opinion/social-media-dumber-steven-pinker.html … There seems to be lefties who are supporting him? Can someone please tell me who to hate and who is the enemy here? I'm getting confused and it's forcing me to think =(.

She has a huge crush on him, but she’s in denial. Stop fighting it, Iona.
