It never is. "And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." Dylan Thomas - Do not go gentle into that good night. #Persevere

Thank you Professor Pinker. Sometimes we are so focused on the tree that we fail to see the bigger picture of the forest. Gratitude for what we have is comforting but not as dramatic or addictive as “the sky is falling!” We need to pay attention to that.

It also wasn't as bad as people thought when there used to be child labor and 12 hour work days. Stop complaining children and workers, if you work less than 12 hours, the capitalists will become destitute and starve!

How much misunderstanding of your work might be rooted in the problem that, when it is less accountable to the state, capitalism is efficient at production but not efficient at the distribution of income and wealth--unless the latter effeciency is defined as "high concentration"?

Unless you are not thinking about it realistically and, in fact, it is worse than you think it is; thinking is often not very carefully executed and often based on false, or on only partially true, premises.

More people, not less, need to understand that the overall trend in everyday life is for the better. & that every news agency they follow focuses on the most gut-wrenching topics in order to garner views. Overall it doesn’t matter how you feel. Things are improving objectively.

How this article deals with climate change. We'll put the genie back by selling more science PR to the great unwashed. Progress causes climate change and you can't have prosperity with no pollution. An informed public is still powerless to stop "biological annihilation".

Fine, but this reads as propaganda. Do we want to de-subjectivism the human condition? Telling disenfranchised people they should snap out of it and see the bigger -~objective~ picture is kinda patronizing. There are simply too many anecdotes to think this is the best we can do.
