Another amazing long-term trend: Research shows that today’s children can control their impulses (in the famous marshmallow test) better than earlier generations. A simple explanation would be that a marshmallow is not such a big deal for a child today as it was 50 years ago?

Perhaps it correlates with family size which has been trending down. If you have siblings, you learn to grab the marshmallow when you can.

What would happen if the offer was 20 minutes screen time right now, vs 40 minutes if they could wait?

Maybe they should do it with something other than marshmallows, kids today probably don't care as much about marshmallows back then, because that was a rarity for many families to enjoy stuff like that. I think they should update it with something today, like a tablet.

This is kinda unreliable. It's like saying "This kid 60 years ago smoked cigarettes, and now the kid now doesn't". Times change, and kids smoking isn't a thing or popular anymore, just like marshmallows aren't as attractive to kids, like watching nursery videos on an ipad

That’s because today’s children have smart phones to keep them busy while the timer runs down.
