How can journalism combat polarization & "alternative facts"? Respecting complexity helps (dumbing down & simplifying, a journalistic reflex, is part of the problem). @soljournohttps://thewholestory.solutionsjournalism.org/complicating-the-narratives-b91ea06ddf63 …

I also think we have a problem, at least in the U.S., with too many journalists focused more on their celebrity status than true journalism.

Truth lies neither in the total affirmation nor in the total denial of either side of things, but precisely in the tug of war between the two. If journalist can hold on to this, they will become wise & the world better. But be prepared to displease those on either entrenched side

Journalists either dont know or dont care about Explicit and Tacit information and weakness in the former leads to misconceptions deliberate or not in the later 🙃

Be impartial. The bad news are the consequences. Lack administration at: Spiritual, Philosophical and Moral levels –dialectic expressed in good manners and logic–.

Excellent article, the writer could not resist letting her own bias peak through, thougj. Maybe that is impossible.

But how to provide information about complexity in a short form that people will actually engage in?

The bias and lack of diversity in viewpoint in newsrooms are at the core. Ignore that and this profession will never regain the public trust that THEY THEMSELVES squandered.

Simplifying like pretending civilization is pure meritocracy and there is no nepotism or racism or ableism, or simplifying like claiming behavior is 100% genetic... Polarizing like calling your opponent stupid (biased) instead of countering their actual arguments.

The grievance is hardly ever about the grievance. Journalism is meant to steelman the argument, not strawman it to profit from the attention it gathers when it sets it ablaze.

Less moralizing and just focusing on facts is probably also important.
