Doom and Gloom: The Role of the Media in Public Disengagement on Climate Change. People flooded with worst-case scenarios may develop "apocalypse fatigue" (AI catastrophists take note.)https://shorensteincenter.org/media-disengagement-climate-change/ …

You are missing the most important point. It is not showing how bad it can get that is the problem... it is that media never show how much better it would be to solve the problems now. And that it is a neglected topic in media.

Coverage of worst-case scenarios has been really poor. I doubt that reporter even knows what they are.

A bit, yes. But, people now moving from appreciating there is a problem, to the personal cost of the solutions. Issue isn’t perceived to be big enough priority to justify the personal sacrifices advocates are demanding.

The ice age cometh and the ice age departeth, no one can explain that! It’s the small things that erode confidence, the salmonella and assorted public health pronouncements, that later, are proved to be twaddle, that is the real problem.

AI doom sayers are perhaps worse since you can a least make reasonable models of the effects of climate change and point to some ok data. AI doom sayers have no data, dont have a good definition of AI, cannot understand how to make a sentient AI, etc

The real irony here is that the Role of the media on climate change is almost non-existent. The national outlets have pretty much punted.

Eh, to me it’s the insane requests of activists with their ever increasing doomsday predictions that fail to deliver. Yeah, climate change is something we need to work on but I always remember my 10th grade teacher who said Florida was supposed to be under water 5 years ago.

And I’m sitting comfortably here on the shitter in Florida. Then activists refuse nuclear power as a solution but expect us to reliably use solar, wind, and water methods for all our energy needs? Despite how they aren’t as reliable and not as efficient?

It’s also funny how they harp on and on about big oil and big coal and how I’m a “tool” of “those in power” yet they don’t realize they are just campaigning for future “big green.” Then the “humanity is a cancer” is extremely off putting. Like if we’re so bad, go kill yourself?
