Nonsense: eg @MercyForAnimals : On dairy farms, newborn calves are taken away from their mothers within just hours of birth. This incredibly cruel practice happens even at your organic, “happy” dairy farm. There’s no way around it: Dairy is and always will be cruel.

Maybe "happiness" as understood by humans is not the best measurement criteria? If the animals could choose between avoiding stress on the one hand, and producing wild and healthy offsping on the other, they may choose the latter.

I know a lion would be happier chasing and ripping into a live animal, rather than eating frozen zoo meat.

It’s this type of thinking that has infected “science”. “Happiness” is not a relevant thing to measure, fulfillment is. You cannot have fulfillment without highs and lows. Measuring cortisol levels does nothing.

I used to chase squirrels for fun. My friend thought it was cruel, but I defended it as giving them a more authentic wild squirrel experience than living in a city with no predators.

Ever catch one?

No, but I've gotten them to climb small trees and then shaken them out.

Bullshit article. 99% of animal products cube from factory farms and this article tries to justify the horrible treatment of animals. The physical and emotional stress they stuffer is off the charts.
