How about co-existence in different spheres? Empiricism for practical matters of public interest because it works, and faith for soothing existential angst in private.

I thought that reason, science and humanism began replacing faith five hundred years ago; and, now, algorithms are beginning to replace reason, science, and humanism.

Such a good question.
-
Should a hammer replace scissors? Faith exists because there are things we want to know and yet have no known method of investigation.
#Science itself relies on faith, or at least assumptions: reality is logically consistent, our most recent observations are accurate, etc. -
I agree with you on the part that we are searching for things that only faith can help us with. But the replacement are for those who can’t live through faith, because they tried.
-
Well, unless you want to differentiate between belief and assumption, pretty much everyone relies on faith to an extent. I tend to live through assumption rather than faith, and it's rather disturbing.
-
Sometimes I wonder if reality is even logically consistent, because if it's not,
#science fails completely. That's troubling. -
Reality in terms of physical laws is logical. But the way humans create their world -using e.g. constructs or categorization- leads to a different not in itself fully logical perception of reality. Science is trying to bridge that gap.

The sun rising and setting feeling like its orbiting the earth, even though we know it doesn't. Then the fact that none of this tells us anything about what it's like to experience watching the sun set

You don't need to replace faith, just let it die and justifiable depression set in.

Great conversation gentlemen. Half way through but wanted to express appreciation for both sides.

One should first ask whether we need to replace faith at all. I mean, do we need to replace cancer when we cure it?

I understand the most importance of science, logic, and reason. For relative reasons it is what progresses us forward, and cannot be done without it. If you understand science though, you should understand we’re science comes down to belief, and faith. It fights the impossible.

Reason, science and VULCANISM should replace humanity. For the good of the universe.

If atheism had reason, science, or even humanism on its side, then I'd become an atheist in a heartbeat. But all of these are corollaries of the Christian worldview. None of them follow from naturalism.

Pinker concedes that atheism without reason, science or humanism is nothing. Christianity has been at its best when combining them with profound understanding of the reality and love of God.
