Here’s How to Break the Impasse on Climate: A carbon tax - more effective than piecemeal regulation or voluntary sacrifice, & supported by the right as well as the left.https://nyti.ms/2MEapz7

This will only work if clean alternatives are provided along with UBI. Do not tax without giving me readily available alternative source of power. Provide Solar panels or clean energy credits.

By making fossil fuels cost more, clean alternatives become more competitive, and by providing a dividend, people have more money to spend on clean alternatives.

We don't have time for the slow move. All our predictive models for climate change are calculated in the wrong base. We don't have decades, we might have a year. Politics is a game we cannot afford the time to play. Global change needs to happen by the end of this year.

Great, so let's do this immediately and crank up the tax year after year to not only meet Paris Agreement targets but beat them year after year. We know what doesn't work, and it's doing nothing. A carbon tax and dividend will save the world.https://medium.com/basic-income/this-idea-can-literally-change-our-world-107cbc94057a …

I don't know why we tax anything. Make fossil fuels illegal & provide clean alternatives for free. We're still trying to change things from within the system that caused the problems in the first place. One swift move & we turn into a Utopia. People will adjust.

Do you honestly think making fossil fuels illegal in the US is a realistic possibility?

After we revolt & replace the government system with a modern alternative it will be simple.. Most of the planet's government systems are obsolete, it's time for change.

Tried it in Australia. It was vilified and repealed. Shame

We in Australia already tried this. It worked reasonably well but the entire right wing and most of the centre lost its shit and it got repealed before it had a chance to really make an impact on emissions. So yeah umm we're fucked

        1. REVOKE corporations legal-status as "persons". 2. REVOKE the classification of money as a form of "free-speech". 3. Impose carbon tax with MASSIVE penalties (including prison) on corporations discovered to be offsetting those costs through shifting the burden to the public.

What about building nuclear power plants and stopping the tax nonsense on CO2?

Best way to combat "climate change"? Innovation in the marketplace. This leads to replacement of legacy technologies that pollute at higher levels and creation of technologies that reuse/recycle pollutants. Best way to inhibit innovation in the marketplace? Tax.
