Did any of the people conducting this research actually live in Sovet Estonia? It's a truly different picture they portray here from what I experienced growing up there. Some of the "observations" mentioned from both era just aren't true.

Busted! Just when you least expect it an Estonian pops out of the woodwork.
-
With a population of less than 1.4 million, could one ever expect an Estonian to pop out anywhere really?
-
No. You're like the Spanish Inquisition.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WJXHY2OXGE …

Wow, we really need to work on our sense of humor though, to live up to that sketch

Looked at it from my comfy chair and just couldn't stop laughing. Thank you for a great start to a Monday!

More and more every day mainstream atheists are promoting social darwinism.I fear the world people like you and Sam Harris want to live it
-
How familiar are you with Sam Harris? I know you didn't say that explicitly, but I very highly doubt that Sam Harris promotes anything close to Social Darwinism.
-
How do u know? Again, what Harris, Shermer, Peterson consistently don’t talk about in itself seems to say something about their beliefs.
-
Well, I don't know for sure but after listening to his podcast with Charles Murray and Ezra Klein it became clear to me that his main goal is not to talk more about genetic differences but to make it clear that we should be able to talk freely about facts, whatever they are.
-
Isn't that the point of the article Pinker and Sam Harris just retweeted. How can you say they don't see genetic differences as deficiencies when that's exactly the point of the article
-
The point of this research was to examine genetic heritability following an abrupt social-economic change. Nothing more. According to the article, no definite conclusions could be drawn.
-
What Pinker basically tweeted is that in a capitalistic and therefore meritocratic system, genetics have greater impact on educational attainment and occupational status compared to a communistic system. This is quite obvious and pointing this out makes nobody a Social Darwinist.
-
Why point this out then? Well, there are a lot of people that don’t even acknowledge that there are such genetic differences, which is very counterproductive when applied to our political system. Counterproductive in the sense that it leads to less equality.

Pinker means: "Hi Bari Weiss, please consider me as leader of intellectual dark web, now that I'm pushing scientific racism. Also, I'm not racist, I just think white people are intellectually superior to blacks & browns, so dismantle affirmative action."https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/3/27/15695060/sam-harris-charles-murray-race-iq-forbidden-knowledge-podcast-bell-curve …
-
If you flatten out environmental variability then genetic variability ascends. This isn't any kind of racism, this is just a fact.
-
Or structure your entire society around inherited wealth, like feudal aristocracy. That would increase genetic predictability. So would executing people with blue eyes.
-
Except we can do studies of intelligent people without inherited wealth versus dumb people with inherited wealth. How do they do? Evidence shows that wealth won’t stay in the family if the people are stupid.
-
lmao ok bud
-
Let’s also point out that this is a study of a homogenous post-soviet society. Hint: ironically in the Soviet country, who you knew actually mattered a lot more than aptitude.
