Open newer, safer ones? And whatever happened to fusion?!?

Still working on fusion. Not viable yet. Energy consumed is till greater than output.

we NEED to tax carbon. It is a negative externality associated with business that can now be accounted for in the cost of business, this is economically sound.
-
In his current book, Enlightenment Now, Pinker makes a broad argument about how to respond to climate change. His response includes taxes on carbon emissions.

I was born the year Chernobyl happened. I’m still 100% safe from Chernobyl.
-
Born couple of month later. Mom had to undergo special treatment and order decontaminated food. Many soils in central europe still tainted.

Which of you has been on a fuel pool floor when the reactor cap was off? Just because an important part of the emissions are invisible does not make them emission-free, believe me. Also, with so many nukes at sea level along the coasts, decommissioning is an urgent task.

Let’s be clear -
#NuclearPower is not#emmisionfree. -
Let's be clear. NOTHING is emission free.

Not really. The only reason fossil fuels are still used is because the world governments promote them. Most of the world's oil production is government owned and operated and the
$USD literally relies on oil sales for a lot of its value. -
The thing a lot of anti-nuke folks don’t get is that nuclear would let us totally displace fossil fuels for electricity and many other uses (because it would allow low-carbon electrification of transport and such).

But the US is an oil dictatorship, which is one reason why other energy sources aren't really being promoted.

Well PV and Wind don't need carbon tax to beat
#nuke in costs... -
The just need subsidies?
-
Not anymore!
-
Depends on the market/region.
-
All sorts of juicy contracts to be doled out for green power. Would not be built otherwise. If carbon taxes get high enough, these projects will build themselves.
-
Even more... But PV in Sun Belt cannot be beaten as Wind in windy counties and Offshore is already competitive in North Sea in Europe
