When Peterson is talking to you about the left and oppression, he's not talking about poverty, he's engaging in discrimination denial. You're a smart guy, but you have a huge blind spot on civil rights I wish you would do more to address when you engage in politics.

There's no meaningful amount of discrimination against anyone in western societies.

Try getting a job if you have a Muslim name in the UK (80% less likely to get an interview). Try hailing a cab if you're female and brown. See how often you're stopped by the police if you're a person of colour. Rank ignorance on your part

Same for Irish in the not so distant past. People dropped the O's.

JP: So by "better angels" you mean the traditional radiant masculine force of order from ourcollective unconscious dominating the black feminine forces of our nature correct? SP: ...? JP: OH, so the "angels" are actually a metaphor for lobsters, our closest biological relative
-
This is brilliant satire. You remembered to mention lobsters and everything.
-
It's cheap, lazy and evil. THIS is brilliant satire:http://www.wisdomination.com/scrambled-eggs-according-to-jordan-peterson/ …
-
I forgot to hit my sarcasm button, I guess. Lazy is the word.

What a disappointment that you, of all people, so rational and so reasonable, should give publicity to a sophist and demagogue like Peterson. Why?
-
Why are so many of Pinkers fans part of this anti-Peterson nonsense? I think they're both great voices on the either side of the spectrum
-
Because Pinker's books appeal to rational people, not ideologues. Peterson is a loon. There's comparing him to Pinker. If you want one indisputable proof of this, listen to Peterson debate the nature of truth for over 2 hrs with Sam Harris, and try to imagine SP talking like that

You do know that in their time, the people we have to thank for enlightenment values were savagely attacked by retrogrades like Peterson - just as those the history shall remember in 300 years are attacked by retrogrades like Peterson? You do know this, I hope?
-
Oh, Janne. You did notice that for the first half hour of the discussion they were talking about you, the gloomy academic intellectual and romantic pessimists who don't have a clue, didn't you?
-
If I want to watch a clown, I go to a circus.
-
Good! There you may encounter a sword-swallower like Hans Rosling who will then tell you exactly the same factful story as Pinker and Peterson did. You still have hope.
-
Of course I do have hope, but frankly speaking, if you can't see what is the problem with charlatans like Peterson, I do not wish to hear from you again. Of course, being a climate denialist should have been a giveaway. But good thing if you like lobsters!
-
And using Rosling even in the same tweet thread as Peterson is, well. Not very bright. But as mentioned, that has been established already.

Steven, How can you stand a charlatan like Peterson? Signed, Very Concerned

I’m slow. What does Chomsky’s view on intellectuals historically falling into line with those in power have to do with Pinker promoting his book on Peterson’s podcast?
-
Re-read your question.
-
Like I said, I’m slow. Pinker was promoting his views to Peterson and his audience. Peterson was agreeing with Pinker. Who do you think is the powerful one in this relationship?
-
Neither. They're both members of an intellectual-class that is deeply subordinated to power & wealth, so they're naturally supportive of ideas that do not threaten it. Of course they're agreeing, they're simply "marching in the parade" (and getting everyone else to do so, too).
-
What a bizarre way of thinking.
