I'm opposed to policing language, but in favor of discretion, and the slang ‘Wife Beater’ for undershirt has got to go.https://nyti.ms/2GQollo

I would agree, inasmuch as we ought to reserve that phrase for #Republicans, #Conservatives, and #Christians. Reminder: as studies have shown, one of the MOST reliable indicators of familial physical abusers is Conservativism & Religious Fundamentalism.

I have no doubt you are correct but I would like to know what studies you are citing. I would like to have the evidence to point this out to members of that group particularly those who aver moral superiority.

Id like a link to that too. Sick of right wing dimwits who characterize the entirety of liberalism as "perverted" because a few insane lefties say pedophilia is acceptable.

And purely on the note of #Christian #sex #abuse, *EVERY* single one of these IS true, and easily verifiable with Google or any other search. And note that for #Catholics, that list doesn't EVEN scratch the surface. Enjoy ;)pic.twitter.com/Wzu9HIcLU1

Singlet. It’s just a singlet. (Also, in England, people use “wife beater” as slang for Stella Artois)

In France we call it a ‘Marcel.’ Named after the sort of slightly outmoded first name you only find in rural areas.

It does NOT need to go, especially since it’s still an evocative expression. “I’m opposed to policing language, but watch me police some language.”

Free speech means you can’t be punished or censored. People can still respond “I think your words were in poor taste.”

Destroying language is litterally straight out of 1984. Not saying this will lead to that, but seriously this is word policing plain and simple. Using this term does not lead to domestic violence. In fact, the term itself is a snide stab at violent men.

“Spouse beater” is the preferred PC term.
