    Instead of safe houses, what we have in plenty is HOTLINES. Government has no shortage of hotlines that can be used to report rape, domestic violence etc. After which you are left to your own devices cannot secure convictions in court with the safety of survivors.

    First draft of the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act had mandated ALL counties to put in place a safe shelter for survivors of violence. That clause never saw the light of day. Safe houses are almost non-existent in our line of work.

    Day7 of In 2013, a woman walked into our offices at 6.00am brutally bruised. Stayed all day. 6.00pm, we had nowhere to take her. Lack of SHELTERS and safe spaces for survivors compromises cases. We watch as they go back to the violence at 6.00pm.

    Sexual harassment is equally PROBLEMATIC for youth volunteers and interns looking for jobs. Nov 2018 report disclosed 44 cases of young women exploited for sex in exchange for jobs. Recalling that AU Peace keeping operations scandals reign with impunity.

    Day 2/ Interrogates UNIVERSITIES as perpetrators of violence. Institutions are rife with cases of students being blamed for rape as easily did in Feb 2020. Most survivors silenced in exchange for MARKS and a graduation gown.

    The church has largely remained silent when one of their own has been accused of sexual violence YET actively issuing press statements& political standpoint on BBI, abortion etc. Out of court settlements negotiated by religious leaders were my biggest struggle .

    September 2018, 7yr old of Somali origin walks into accompanied by his grandmother seeking protection. They claim their lives are in danger. At the heart of this is an Imam and a claim of sodomy. Case had been reported to Pangani, Embakasi &Tassia police. No arrest.

    We copied notes by hand, most times with gaps becoz was too fast..we shared the only Evidence law textbook amongst 75 of us and 's Property Law textbook was too expensive to afford but yet..we are SUPERIOR 😎
