    Did you know our Fed poverty line is based on 1955 spending, & the way we calculate it hasn’t changed since 1964? It assumes 1 earner & a mother home full-time. It doesn’t include cost of childcare, geographic cost of living, or healthcare. Some predict it should be *$38k/yr.*

    Of the Boston public high school valedictorians the tracked down, more became homeless than became doctors (the career 1/4 of them had said they aspired to). Today, only 40% earn more than $50K a year, and 1 in 4 don't have a college degree.

    Messaging public health to public safety can be challenging. At once trying to communicate 1️⃣importance of health-centered interventions, while acknowledging 2️⃣they’re not always accessible/acceptable to pts, 3️⃣depend on & 4️⃣don’t always work perfectly. It’s complicated.

    Recently met a nice, smart guy doing drug policy work while in grad school. He shared that he was in recovery, tho he didn’t feel comfortable disclosing to his professors or peers. He was organizing a panel on harm reduction & I owed him an email. He died on Christmas Day. 😔
