We should all be very alarmed by the WH news posts calling immigrants "animals". This is how people get normalized into the kind of thinking that allows them to justify genocide.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/05/21/white-house-feeds-trump-base-with-news-release-doubling-down-on-ms-13-animals/?noredirect=on …

I don't understand. Do you mean to be suggesting Trump called immigrants in general (that is, people not members of ms13) "animals"? Because that's how I read your tweet, and that's not what I see on the tape of the press conference.

You're correct that he didn't call all immigrants "animals", and perhaps I wasn't careful in my wording there. However, historically the dehumanization of groups of people--and I think it's no conicidence that the target here is non-white--is used to pave a path to atrocities.

I hear you, and I agree there is a slippery slope here, but this seems way out there. Attacking politicians (even ones we disagree with) using false quotes (even ones we think they believe)... seems like a terrible idea, both ethically and tactically. IMHO integrity is key.

I agree, I think there's still alarm for the things I said above, but I phrased inaccurately. Will try to do better next time.

OTOH, one of my friends over on the fediverse has some things to say about how it's pretty clear that Trump was speaking fairly directly to his supporters in broad strokeshttps://mastodon.social/@gamehawk/100079737519173673 …
