People are falsely saying Ellie Kemper was in a KKK beauty pageant. The org reinforces the racist power structures that birthed it but also it’s not the KKK and was accepting Black members by the 70’s. Shit’s complicated, American institutions are racist.

At the risk of stating the obvious, excluding Black people from membership was not foremost among the evils of the KKK.

I like how people literally pretend that them accepting black people wasn't a front to help them not seem racist. It's like how slave owners had sex with slaves and stole the white-passing kids even though they saw slaves as property and not realy people mentality

For the record, I'm not at all saying they weren't racist. They were super racist. I'm just saying they were distinct from the murderers of the KKK.

Yeah, I agree! These groups try to realign themselves so that they fit in whenever society becomes marginally more inclusive, but they made their money and influence in awful ways and they shouldn't be allowed to forget or minimize that.

Well, I think there are degrees of this sort of thing. Imagine, for example, a missionary school founded to Christianize native people that currently sits on unceded Abenaki land and provides its services to the barest minimum number of First Nations people.
