50% of white people say they’re satisfied with the “position of blacks and minorities” in society.

*White people* believe race relations have gotten better. Black people in the same polls say race relations have gotten worse since Trump took office.

My grandma was rumored to have kept a python under her bed for protection, cured blindness, and scared off a pack of lions by herself. A King’s daughter, she lived 85+ years. Today pharmaceutical corporations still try to piece together remedies her tribe has used for centuries.

For example, according to the Miami State’s Attorney Office, court costs and fees are not included in the sentencing document. I’ve heard from local organizers that there are even more costs that aren’t included in the sentencing document.

  12. LA Sheriff’s Department uses deadly force more often than 86% of sheriffs departments in California. In 85% of police shootings they don’t try to use alternatives first. And they have the *highest* level of racial bias in the state. Their Police Scorecard:

  13. For example, here’s data on police shootings (both fatal and non-fatal) in the largest 50 police departments. Notice the decline coinciding with the 2014 Ferguson uprising and subsequent activism.

  14. Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputies use more deadly force than 75% of California sheriffs departments. 75% of people they killed or seriously injured from 2016-18 were Unarmed.

  15. 2019: Black people were arrested “on view” during a stop at twice the rate that white people were from 1/1/19 - 10/31/19.

  16. Our analysis found San Diego Sheriff’s Department was 130% more likely to stop black people than white people and 47% more likely to use force against them during each stop.

The disparities aren’t sufficiently explained by SDPD policing of homelessness (though that’s also an issue we noted). Black people are also more likely to be stopped than white people for moving violations + face more severe disparities during those stops than other stops. Why?

  18. Vallejo police use force against people more often than any other police department in California.

  19. Which, besides being a wild thing for police to say, is also inconsistent with their own data. There are more severe racial disparities in San Diego police conduct during traffic stops (especially moving violations like speeding) which are unlikely to be related to homelessness.

  20. In response the police released a statement disputing the findings by claiming that they were stopping, searching and using force against so many black people because they were also homeless.🤔
