Agree. There's no way we'd know what that noise was, when driving across Cda & U.S. in our VW Vanagon en-route to Pittsburgh, PA. YouTube helped us identify that it was probably our rear CV joint. Helped me know whether safe to keep driving, & what to say to the shop.

There is definitely an under appreciated sea change ramping up. Hopefully we don’t rely on a single tech company to supply it. It’s unclear open online courses have failed just because they weren’t completed. I personally used them as supplemental lectures while in school.

I've had phases of obsessively watching woodworking and other 'shop' videos on YT, without actually making anything. When I recently decided to try to make a wooden play frame for my niece, I had the slightly surreal experience of just doing everything right on the first try

I'm overstating here, it was at a hackspace so I had people around to help, and it's not like I'd never made anything before. But still, by far largest project I'd made, and I'd never used many of the tools and materials. YT deserves a lot of credit
