Thanks everyone for voting and replying. Must say I'm (pleasantly) surprised by these results. It's always been animals for me, but honestly I would have expected more people to have been motivated by health to begin with.

Animals 100%. The more I find out about environmental impacts of even vegan food production, the less I think it is a cure for our environment. Better than non-vegan foods, yes, but not as much as is generally put forward.

My primary motivation has always been, and will always be, the animals. I knew that a vegan diet was generally better for me but as I eat a ton of junk food I can’t profess to be THAT concerned with health. Recently I’ve started advocating a plant-based for environmental reasons.

I'd been vegetarian for 5 years & thought I wasn't harming anyone until an activist took the time to explain the workings of the dairy industry. I was horrified, went vegan there and then. That was over 30 years ago. It's always been about the animals, everything else is a bonus.
