    One of the ingredients in Shopify’s success has been to completely ignore academic credentials in hiring. It’s a signal but just one of many and probably not in the top 3. Glad this is catching on.

    This is a big deal. ⁦⁩ all drop college degree requirement from hiring criteria.

    Implementation should always be derived from outcomes. If the outcome is well defined, it enables a productive conversation about the best implementation to achieve it which in turn leads to value for your customers.

    Bringing too many implementation details into the discussions anchors your thinking to the status quo, potentially preventing you from identifying the right value for the users of your product.

    When making something new that clearly competes with something that exists, gravity will pull you towards trying to do everything they do PLUS the new stuff you want to do. I’d encourage you steer clear of feature parity. Instead, handle common struggles in novel, unique ways.
