I never said I was a witch. However, if I were you I’d be very careful with what you say about me….

@TeamPelosi having an exorcism performed - right after leaving office - should speak to weird, deceitful leadership, just as the @washingtonpost religion reporter @sallyquinndc saying she's a #witch spoke to the weird, deceitful #journalism we must endure dnyuz.com/2023/01/21/nan

Eunice Shriver is an American Hero and helped more people with differences than anyone in this country. She can’t be celebrated enough. Not only that, she produced Tim Shriver! What more can you ask?

I do. Can you imagine saying weedhead? Pot sounds comfortable and cozy. Weed sounds mean. Cannibis is a beautiful plant which gives pleasure. Weed is something you spray with Round up on. Pot was cool before the people who use weed were born.

Does anyone call weed pot anymore?

Someone said at Mark’s funeral that he was the most decent person they ever met. He was not wrong. What a fabulous guy!

Mark Shields was old school—a marine, a student of Notre Dame, a hard driving political activist who was still respectful of his opponents. I wrote about Mark last summer and am sharing my essay now in tribute to him. Rest in goodness my good friend. mailchi.mp/unite/addicted

Pretty obvious. They are thinking the same thing those close to Hitler were thinking when he was in the bunker.

Hard not to wonder to what extent those close to Putin thinking about & maybe even discussing what to do. It is not just that he is leading their country into ruin; they have to consider that their support for Putin will make them hunted war criminals for the rest of their lives.

Sarah Palin has Covid! She had dinner this week at Elio's, the bastion of NY elites. She was unvaccinated. Despite NY law they did not check her status. Wonder how many people she infected? Do you suppose it might have been deliberate? Just askin'...

Bill Greider, one of the great reporters of our day. Fearless, honest, with enormous integrity. He was a mentor to me at the Washington Post. Nothing pleased him more than when I would profile an elitist hypocrite, left or right ,and let them tell their story in their own words.

Our son, Quinn Bradlee, then five or six, now almost forty had a terrible speech impediment . Nobody except Ben and I could understand a word he said. But Joan and John would hang out with Quinn in the kitchen. They reveled in his conversation. They found him fascinating. .

No caustic, gloomy, downbeat conversations for them. She relished good gossip but only if it was amusing. She cherished great conversation. She and John were also kind. They used to stay with my late husband Ben Bradlee and me in Washington.

Joan had a delicious and contagious giggle. It started at the back of her throat and gurgled up to enchant everyone around her. You couldn't be around Joan or her husband, John Dunne, without without constant merriment. They wouldn't have it.

I first met Joan Didion when I interviewed her for the Washington Post many years ago. I was stunned. She was so not like her reputation. We laughed all the way through lunch. I wrote that. We became fast friends forever. Joan was really funny. She could be silly and zany .

I knew Joan Didion. She was a good friend of mine. I'm here to tell you she was no JOAN DIDION. Joan has often been described as mordant, depressive, biting, sarcastic, humorless. A reviewer once asked, "Can nothing be done to cheer this woman up?"
