    What I want non-disabled people to understand is how utterly humiliating it is when your access needs aren’t met. It’s not your fault but suddenly your needs feel so awkward & shameful. The embarrassment of being excluded is painful, especially when there is no solution.

    For you, my access needs are probably just another chore on your to do list... but for me they are essential so that I can participate in the world. I ask that you think about how neglecting to make an adjustment in your life, business or community excludes disabled people.

    HEADS UP! Grad students at UCSC are going on a full strike Monday! They pay up to 80% of their meager stipends on rent & struggle to teach, research, & make ends meet ICYMI we interviewed organizers on last month:

    UCSC grads are going on a FULL STRIKE starting next Monday, February 10. A lot of organizing needs to happen between now and then, but we are on STRIKE! Reminder: this is an ongoing wildcat strike for a Cost of Living Adjustment for ALL GRADS at UCSC.

    They may be bossy/think/act like they are leaders (self appointed). They are not humble, in fact the are OFTEN power hungry, making up rules for the people around them.

    They are often VERY nice publicly, but once you get to know them you realize they lash out a lot and have little to no consideration for the feelings of those around them. Despite not caring for others these selfish people often will expect people to cater to their need & wants.

    In fact, a lot of abusers DO have self esteem issues. They may themselves have even been abused in the past - sometimes leaning on the excuse, “I was hurt so now I just others”. Regardless the TOXIC BEHAVIORS are unacceptable and inexcusable. No passes, no excuses for abuse!

    That doesn’t mean they don’t hate themselves, it JUST means they prioritize themselves more than the people around them - because often those around abusers aren’t seen as people, they are tools to be used.
