NEW: Senate will narrow eligibility for stimulus checks under a deal between moderate Dems and Biden. Singles under $75K get the full $1,400. But it zeroes out at $80K (not $100K). Couples under $150K get full amount. But zeroes out at $160K (not $200K).https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/biden-senate-democrats-agree-limit-eligibility-1-400-checks-n1259463 …

That’s according to two sources familiar with the Senate Democrats’ new plan. It keeps the $1,400 topline number for checks, per Biden’s promise, but phases them out much faster above the $75K/$150K incomes. w/ @frankthorp @GarrettHaake 👇https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/biden-senate-democrats-agree-limit-eligibility-1-400-checks-n1259463 …

This means Biden will send checks to fewer people than Trump did (but with more cash for many). Some Democrats had argued against this, warning it'd lead to some seriously angry people who got money before and didn't expect to be excluded this round.https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/biden-senate-democrats-agree-limit-eligibility-1-400-checks-n1259463 …

Crucially, the pact between Biden and Senate moderates preserves the $400-per-week federal unemployment insurance through August, a big deal for progressives. But it won't be extended to September, as some Democrats had wanted, to avoid a recess cliff.https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/biden-senate-democrats-agree-limit-eligibility-1-400-checks-n1259463 …

How much will Senate Democrats save from these changes pushed by moderates to reduce eligibility for stimulus payments? $12 billion, Sen. Wyden tells me. The overall cost of the package is $1.9 trillion.https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/biden-senate-democrats-agree-limit-eligibility-1-400-checks-n1259463 …

Wyden, the Finance Committee chairman, made clear he preferred to keep eligibility for direct cash at the $100K/$200K level. The reduction to $80K/$160K came as a result of a demand by centrist Democrats, agreed to by Joe Biden to get the bill passed, per multiple sources.

So this is all about optics for the moderate Dems and the Republicans saying they were holding Biden's feet to the fire. Or, .06% by my calculations. What a farce.

Why are people with steady work even getting stimulus payments?

When people spend money, regardless of their work status it "stimulates" the economy and helps improve the overall condition for Americans. Got it?

So, less than one percent... Out of ALL that money, they decide to target the American worker for cuts? How about cutting one jet fighter in development instead, FFS?
