New: Pete Buttigieg says he can win Republicans against Donald Trump. But national polls show him getting crushed among GOP voters in head-to-heads with the president—as badly or worse than Dem rivals and similar to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 showing.https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/buttigieg-says-he-can-win-republicans-contest-trump-polls-don-n1138136 …

Two new national polls (Marist & NBC/WSJ) and battlegrounds of MI/PA/WI (Quinnipiac) tell a similar story: the evidence isn’t there to back Buttigieg’s argument that he’ll win over Republicans if he’s the nominee. Nor does he outperform Dem rivals on this.https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/buttigieg-says-he-can-win-republicans-contest-trump-polls-don-n1138136 …

As the Buttigieg campaign correctly notes, he performed well in redder parts of Iowa and New Hampshire. Will winning Democratic primary voters in Trumpy areas translate to converting Republicans?https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/buttigieg-says-he-can-win-republicans-contest-trump-polls-don-n1138136 …

I have enormous respect and admiration for Mayor Pete, but he will not be the Dem candidate this year. My hope is that he will be given a cabinet position in the new Dem administration and get his sea legs in national leadership. He's too bright and talented to waste.
