Whoever sold that gun to him broke no law. The seller only has to make sure they're selling to a resident they have no duty to inquire about whether the buyer is a prohibited possessor.

Does it make any sense to anyone that Gun owners should be required to carry liability insurance just as its required to drive a car- accidents and mass shootings seem to happen - and having required insurance may have people think twice before purchasing or owning one.

They might cover accidents but I don't think they're going to be very interested in covering criminal shootings.
