Donald Trump has a 91% job approval rating among Republicans in the latest Gallup tracking poll.https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1124667509242777600 …

Joe Biden says the Trump presidency is an aberration, and that he doesn't represent the Republican Party. Some Democrats think that is naive. https://nyti.ms/2H0fZd1

There are plenty of liberal and conservative elites who insist Trump doesn’t ~really~ represent his party when pretty much every available data point about Republican voters says the opposite. At some point it becomes wishcasting.

Put another way: Donald Trump represents the Republican Party about as well as Barack Obama represented the Democratic Party. Which is to say very well.

Because conservatives elites don't want to admit their party is bound up by racism and liberal elites don't want to admit their friends on the other side are a bunch of racists.

This drives me nuts! It’s also completely ludicrous that people want to put all blame on Trump alone when the GOP allows all of it! They say nothing and go nothing which means they support all that he does! They could stop it and they choose not to!

I think they mean he does not represent what the Republican party has traditionally stood for. But so many true Republicans have left, myself included. the GOP is something barely recognizable. It has become the party of Trump so he does represent what remains of the GOP.

Yes: if the party has shed nearly all but the truest of true believers, all this statistic tells us is that Trump supporters support Trump.

My husband left the R party because of him. How many true R’s are left? That’s the research you need to uncover.

It's still 91% of millions of people and it makes me wonder about how low Trump has to go to bring those 9% to the approval side. I think the 9% disapproval for Trump is not for what he's done, it's because he hasn't gone far enough for them. That's frightening.

Hard to just rely on polls... because, due to Trump, how many long time Republicans have stopped (temporarily) identifying themselves as Republicans?

NO ONE ever includes the information that (although 90% of Republicans support Trump) Republicans are only 24% of all voters. They are a shrinking, minority party. Media- do better!!!

The poll numbers to watch are the ones with independent voters. The ones in swing states will determine the 2020 election.
