I decided that this year, every day, I would knit a row on a scarf to mark the corresponding daily temperature/weather of my town. It felt like a good way to engage with the changing climate and with the changing year. A way to notice and not look away. Here's January then.

I often wonder if there’s any way to connect people willing to help (and to learn to code) with researchers who are majorly slowed not by conceptual difficulty but just the size of their task

My 4-year-old niece made up a good joke: Q: Why did the crab leave his house? A: Because he had to buy a gun because he wanted to kill himself.

It occurred to me for the first time – this is such an awful thing to admit – how I hope my mom passes before my dad. And, if the opposite were to occur, I don't know how my mom would cope w/ realizing, for the first time, what an immensely valuable role he played in her life.

Existing as a member of my own family, sharing this household with them, feels like being forced to participate in a sadistic nihilistic play whose script is already written and everyone is aware of it on some, if not conscious, level.

So long as you fulfill a script of dutiful domestication, per your own interpretation and internalization of a religious doctrine, it's as though any critical thought or reflection required to enhance your & others' experiences becomes completely unnecessary.

I hate when people's faith in religion, God, whatever turns into a mechanism of escaping personal responsibility.

I know this one isn't a space that "appeals" to me, but applying design thinking in everyday spaces seems like a justifiable exercise at all.

2/ eating at a Chipotle but wondering why the reflective tables feel so uneasy to me. perhaps their reflective quality is antagonistic to the groundedness one seeks in a table: these tables feel like floating sinks. good for getting people moving along, but not for comfort.

Also, MAJOR shoutout to me n 's boy John Dewey. Guy is a friggin icon of aesthetics and yet I've never met an art history student who had read him:
