  2. In this video I try to dissect the idea that women are each other’s worst enemies aka Aurat Hee Aurat Ki Dushman Hoti Hai. P.S Turn on the CC tab in YouTube and you can also watch it with subtitles

  3. — Mrs. so and so instead of Ms. Apparently marriage is a defining feature of a woman’s life, but not a man’s.

  4. Gendered language I will always care about: — Forefather/grandfather/father in place of ancestors/grandparents/parents when talking in historical terms. Women’s historical erasure is not a ‘frivolous’ concern.

  5. Now that misogynists on my TL are sufficiently triggered, I guess it’s time to tweet my new video.

  6. Loving your mother doesn’t mean you are sensitive to the historic erasure of women in the political sphere and the systemic male privilege you operate within. Loving mothers (who for reasons of survival are often key upholders of the patriarchy) doesn’t preclude misogyny.

  7. Puhleeze, you need to read a post-colonial text or two to help you get over this ‘etiquette’ mindset.

  8. ‘It was passed down from my grandfather to my father to us’ — . I know it’s stupid to expect even a modern day Aitchisonian to use gender neutral language, let alone one who is 60-something, but hope, and disappointment, spring eternal.

The husband-wife relationship in the first episode of Marie Kondo is disturbingly conventional. Crazy how orthodox American suburbia is in a supposedly post-feminist world.

Funny. Even in Afghanistan, one doesn't see such palpably anti-woman nonsense on television "news." I'm sure the Taliban and Islamic State have made such claims. Conclude what you will. Maybe Tucker can get a job with the Taliban?

Sabahat so much has already been lost. Having recently worked on a book that required heavy use of archives it was a nightmare locating old images. Drove me to the brink of collapse. And those who have archives aren't willing to share out of sheer selfishness.

I absolutely agree. It could well go unnoticed. Had my thesis not required engagement with media/media studies, I never would’ve realized the extent to which Pakistani art and culture is unarchived. It’s really no wonder we have identity crises.

Syed Noor’s Ghunghat (1996) had some really great songs. Really unfortunate that it doesn’t have any official presence on YouTube. How much of our art gets lost for lack of resources and proper distribution.

This commentary deals with the age-old patriarchal trope that asserts that women are women’s worst enemies and is used to counter feminism. beautifully and simply explains why this trope exists and the patriarchal structures that divide women.
