I wonder if 0.2mg of vitamin c wasn't enough to have an effect? Empirical NIH study showing its not a placebo: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10543583 Try taking it when you feel like you might be getting a cold – aches, runny nose, etc. You'll see why people suggested it.
