I think they are intuitive, but I have a math degree. Some purport that their big-number-squishing quality encourages the hoi polloi to under-estimate the size of the problem.

PSA: "hoi" already means "the." You don't have to say the "the." it is vicariously embarrassing that everyone gets this wrong. please, it's 2020, we can stop doing it.

Hoi reason I say it is that it is standard english usage to say "the hoi polloi" :) Sorry, totally not trying to be edgey, truly interested in your opinion as a crazy smart person about this slightly silly rising meme that "ordinary people can't understand log plots."
